![]() ![]() To study microstructural effects on properties, the Al- alloy was used in two tempers T4 followed by post weld heat treatment T6, and in T6 followed by a defined duration of natural ageing at room temperature. Sheets of AA 6056 and Ti6Al4V were butt-joined by inserting the Ti-sheet into the profiled Al-sheet and by melting the Al- alloy alone using a split beam Nd:YAG laser. Structure-property investigations on a laser beam welded dissimilar joint of aluminium AA 6056 and titanium Ti6Al4V for aeronautical applications Part I: Local gradients in microstructure, hardness and strength However, the application of EDX analysis to provide direct evidence of the chemical composition variation in the solid solution across the grain boundary appears less satisfactory. This supports the current theory of the desensitization of AA 6056 alloy. Analysis of dark-field images and of zero-loss filtered selected-area-diffraction patterns, along with EDX spectroscopy, indicates an advanced precipitation of the quaternary phase containing Si and Cu in the T78-tempered alloy compared to the T6 one. Quantitative transmission electron microscopy is used to characterize the microstructure of an industrial Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy ( AA 6056) in a state (T78 temper) desensitized to intergranular corrosion in comparison with the peak aged state (T6 temper). [Compagnie de Produits Chimiques et Electrometallurgiques Pechiney, Centre de Recherches de Voreppe, 38 (France) T6 and T78 tempers of AA6065 alloy: a quantitative TEM studyĮnergy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB) The base material (T4) and the heat-treated one (T6) were put in comparison showing a remarkable ductility reduction of the joint after T6 treatment After friction stir-welding thermal treatment has been carried out at 530 deg. Metallurgical investigations, hardness and mechanical tests were also performed to correlate the TEM investigations to the mechanical properties of the produced friction stir-welded butt joint. The microstructure evolution of a joint of Al-Si-Mg alloys A 6056-T4 and A 6056-T6 has been characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
